| Wade Bowcutt asks Jeffrey Pettingill how to control the Perennial Sowthistle in this field without harming any of the grasses. Jeffrey notes that most of the plants are already going to seed, ready to blow off in the wind. One of the first things he encourages landowners to do is to just mow the plants down to get the seeds close to the ground. The plant is already dying for the summer so it won't do any good to spray it. In the fall, or better yet in the spring they can come in and spray the rosettes. There is an array of different herbicides that can be used. He also notes that there are really no biological agents for this plant because so far it has not caused too many problems. This is one of the weeds put on the list to prevent it from becoming a huge problem as it is in other states. Wade notes that there are other thistles nearby going to seed as well. Jeffrey also comments that they recommend that landowners "open up a can of patience" and wait to spray herbicides. He also notes that it is "snowing Canada Thistle."
