| Roger Batt notes that it makes sense to dig Musk Thistle up in the rosette if you see them. Jeffrey Pettingill notes that often you don't notice them until they are big. But if you can find rosettes like this you can just pop them out of the ground with your shovel, making sure you get that crown. Instead of digging a hole, you can just loosen them and then just pull them out. This way we are not disturbing a lot of soil, leaving the natural vegetation there so it can out compete next years Musk Thistle crop. If you dig a big hole, creating a big disturbed spot you are just asking for more weeds to come in.
