| Jeffrey Pettingill explains some of the identifying characteristics of the Musk Thistle rosette. There is not a lot of hair on the leaves and that is one thing that is unique. Scotch Thistle and most native thistles have a fine pubescence of hair that helps them with survival in this rougher country. You can also notice a silvery white on the outer leaf margins. Musk Thistle is the only one of the thistles that has this white color. This is one of the very strong distinguishing characteristics of the plant.
