On May 19, 2005, Jeffrey Pettingill, Bonneville County Weed Superintendent and Roger Batt, Coordinator of the Idaho Weed Awareness Campaign are investigating a patch of new rosettes and last years dead plants of the Musk Thistle weed in the Antelope Creek area east of Idaho Falls.
Jeffrey notes that the rosette stage of these plants probably started germinating about three weeks to a month ago. This is an interesting piece of the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) built here for wildlife. He points out that the Antelope Creek riparian area is nearby that needs to be protected to make sure the seeds of this plant don't float downstream. He also notes that in this whole patch the plant will get very thick almost like a jungle, and it all starts with this little rosette.
Note that there are several video "hot spots" available which provide a lot more detailed information.
