Roger Batt notes that Bryan Dallolio can see the spots on the Spotted Knapweed he is holding in his hand and a lot of different phases of the flower as well. Bryan points to a close up and notes that the outer greenish tinged petals are called bracts. The spots on the bracts are what give Spotted Knapweed its name. It is plainly evident these are all spotted. He points at one flower that is just emerging and another one that has been out for several days. The second one is wind blown and kind of roughed up but he points to a third flower and notes that it has probably been out for five or six days. This one is a pretty good example of what Spotted Knapweed looks like in full flower. Roger agrees that this looks like a good specimen.
