Poison Hemlock Characteristics Video

Bryan Dallolio points at a Poison Hemlock stem and tells Roger Batt that he wants to identify one of the characteristics of this noxious weed. A purple mottling is visible at basically all stages of plant development. When if first emerges it can be hard to see the purpling of the stems, but by the time the plant is 2-3 inches tall, which happens quickly, there will be at least some purple spotting on the stems. This spotting is not so much on the leaves, of course, but on the stems. Roger notes that this is a good characteristic for people to recognize this plant when they see it.
