Roger Batt notes that there are a lot of different kinds of controls for Leafy Spurge, but asks Bonnie Davis if they are really ever going to control or eradicate the plant because the roots go really deep, as much as twenty feet. Bonnie notes that they do have a fully integrated management plan in this particular area along the Weiser River for Leafy Spurge. One method is bio-control. The bug feeds on the root which makes the root mass shrink and this stresses the plant, which is desirable. Also, goats are used to eat the plant, which stops seed production, a real plus. She notes that they have also done extensive herbicide treatments along with reseeding efforts. In summary, they have pulled all of the tools out of the toolbox. However, Bonnie also wants people to know that even if they do get the weed under control it will still need maintenance, probably forever.
