Brian Wilbur, Ada County Weed Control Director, and Roger Batt, Idaho Weed Awareness Campaign Coordinator, introduce themselves. Roger notes that they are looking at Hoary Cress, commonly known as Whitetop, and asks Brian to explain why this is a noxious weed in the state of Idaho. Brian responds by noting that this weed has a long history in Ada County and is one of the reasons the county started a noxious weed control department. He notes that the reason the weed is noxious is that once the plant starts they just take over the ground and just out compete most of the native vegetation. Brian points out that the area they are looking at with the disturbed soil and native vegetation is an example where this noxious weed, having a deeper root system and better seed productivity, winds up taking over.
