Invasive Characteristics Video

Roger Batt asks Rory Clinton to estimate how many seeds are produced from the seed heads of a Diffuse Knapweed plant he is looking at. Rory states, "It could be thousands." Plus, he continues, as a perennial plant it has roots and rhizomes that other plants are going to produce from, too.

Roger also asks Rory to explain how invasive is the Diffuse Knapweed weed? Rory responds that it is pretty invasive, however, as you can see it does not grow as thick as some other knapweeds like Russian, or Spotted Knapweed. Also, in this area a lot of downy brome or cheatgrass and mustards grow which create competition for these weeds. But in other areas where there is heavy grazing, the Diffuse Knapweed seems to gain a better foothold when there is no other weed competition.
