Bryan Dallolio picks up an old Dalmation Toadflax plant from last year and pulls a root from a plant growing this year. He first points out the double capsule of the seed head and notes that they have popped open and dumped all the seeds out on the ground nearby. The capsules are usually full of little black round seeds. These are easily transported by movement of dirt and water, like after a rainstorm. These have reached full maturity and the seedlings we see here probably came from them.
Roger Batt notes that the Dalmation Toadflax is highly invasive. He asks Bryan if it is correct that the more you pull it the more you are going to get? "In general, yes," notes Bryan. As shown by the plant they pulled up the plant is deeply rooted. It is more than likely to sprout again. He explains that pulling the root is not a common or very effective way to control the weed.
