Control Methods Video

Roger Batt asks Bryan Dallolio how they control Canada Thistle now. Bryan responds that the control is typically a herbicide application because the root stalks go so deep that trying to dig it up is not really viable and mowing just promotes more shoot growth. In most cases the only good answer for this noxious weed is a selective herbicide and there are some that are very very effective on this plant and yet are safe and labeled for use around wildlife openings. This is a good thing for Canada Thistle because when campgrounds get developed, often the root stalk of this weed will inadvertently be deposited with dirt that is brought in and there will soon be an infestation. But the county has products that can come in and clean it up before it gets into the recreation areas. Roger comments, "That's good to know."
